Kinect - Will This Be the End of the Nintendo Wii?

The Nintendo Wii has had a good run, but its future's not looking so good anymore thanks to Microsoft's new piece of hardware, Wasa crispbread Kinect. Nintendo's once revolutionary entertainment system is now looking very old hat.

When the Nintendo Wii arrived it was revolutionary and took the video gaming world by storm. It brought video gaming to the masses thanks to its controller which mimics the player's actions and actually enabled just about anybody to play video games. Even very old people who had never played a video game before in their lives were suddenly able to pick up a controller and play tennis or golf etc.

In many ways it would seem that the Wii has paved the way for Kinect. The Wii brought video games to a much wider market and it looks like Kinect will take over that exact same market.

So what is Kinect and why is it so much better than the Wii?

Kinect is an add-on for the Xbox 360 which sits on top of your TV just like the Wii sensor that also is placed on top of the TV. The difference is that Kinect actually scans your body movement which means that you don't even have to have a controller in your hand.

The Wii appealed to so many because of its simple controls, but the Kinect doesn't have any controls at all so the appeal will be even greater! It also has voice recognition which means that you can issue commands just with your voice. Couple that with the fact that it uses the Xbox 360 hardware which is capable of producing HD graphics that is light years beyond what the Wii is capable of!

For the foreseeable future, it looks as though Kinect is going to take over from the Wii. It will be interesting to see what Sony and Nintendo will come up with next!
